Good Grief for School Professionals

This online training is designed for educators, counselors, administrators, and school staff wanting to gain a better understanding of children’s grief and how to support bereaved students. Topics include an overview of current grief theory, indicators of grief, children’s understanding of death throughout developmental stages, grief-based books and activities, helpful and not helpful things to say, and student support plans. Attendees will be provided access to student support plan templates and printable grief activity samples.

Lori Bokone co-manages the school-based programs and facilitates grief support groups in various schools in the Houston area. She holds a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Psychology from The Ohio State University. Lori served as a volunteer facilitator at Bo’s Place for 8 years before joining the staff in 2016 and has 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher.

Julie Hogg coordinates a designated ongoing family group and facilitates designated school groups. Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Texas A&M University and a Master of Social Work from The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She volunteered as a support group facilitator for 6 years before joining the staff at Bo’s Place in 2023.

Each professional is responsible for the individual requirements as stipulated by his/her licensing agency. Please contact your individual licensing board/regulatory agency to review continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Please note: You must attend "live" (in real-time) to earn CE credits.
